The Bankruptcy Pro Bono Project is seeking “interns” for the Spring 2017 semester. Please see below for an outline of the project, time commitment, and use toward Honors Engagement.

The Honorable Judith H. Wizmur  Bankruptcy Pro Bono Project offers to interns:

– exposure to  the legal profession and bankruptcy law

-networking with attorneys and law students

       – and, most importantly, the opportunity to assist low-income New Jersey residents in financial distress.

Interns are responsible for managing the logistics of client/attorney/law student interview sessions, outreach to clients, light filing and copying, and other duties as requested. Student interns are expected to adapt to  different personality types and situations not normally encountered.

From this experience, interns will gain improved organizational and interpersonal communication skills, beneficial to any career pathway.

The Bankruptcy Project is seeking 1-2 bright, articulate, and professional student interns for Spring 2017. Students interested in law may find this opportunity particularly appealing, but all majors are accepted. Interns should expect to commit to an average of 6 hours per week and must be available evenings from 4:30-7:30pm. Clients will be scheduled for two nights each week, though the nights will differ throughout the term. While this is not a credited internship opportunity, Honors Students may count this experience as a campus commitment.  As you know, campus commitments may be used in lieu of 3 campus activities in each semester you are active with your chosen commitment.  In addition, interns are rewarded with the gratitude of the Pro Bono Project and an end-of-semester lunch outing to Cathedral Kitchen Café.

Interested students should submit a cover letter (describing interest in internship and relevant experience) and 1-page resume to Pam Mertsock-Wolfe, Associate Director, Pro Bono and Public Interest Program. Selected candidates will be interviewed. Pam can be reached by email at pmertsoc@camden.rutgers.edu. Only 1-2 students will be selected for this opportunity, so do not delay in applying!
