Netflix’s The Old Ways follows the story of a Mexican-American journalist who returns to her home of origin, Veracruz Mexico, to follow a story. She’s kidnapped by locals who believe she’s been possessed by a demon. VPVA will screen the film and facilitate a conversation on: media and genre as a tool for understanding social messaging; possession as a metaphor for rape; the integration of modern and ancestral practices as a pathway for healing and prevention.
