Le Tableau – The Painting
Nominee for the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and winner of the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, this 2011 3D film is literally an animated work of art. It explores an incomplete painting where inside lives completely painted figures, Toupins (Allduns), partially painted figures, Pafinis (Halfies), and the sketches, Reufs (Sketchies). Three friends, one of each class, wants to put an end to the violence between their people. So, they set out on a quest to find the artist to finish the painting and on the way they discovered different worlds the artist has painted. The Painting is a brilliantly made film that explores profound topics like racism, love, and finding meaning in life. Any artistically savvy individuals will enjoy the references made to painters Marc Chagall, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse.
