Presentation of the Baron Award and the Weiner & Packard Award Featuring Sanaa Talwasa

 

Sanaa Talwasa is a Global JD degree candidate at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law at Drexel University, with a background as an advocate for women’s rights in Afghanistan and a former Fulbright Scholar. 

In 2019, she earned her master’s degree in law from Emory Law School, with a concentration in human rights, juvenile justice, and international law. Upon returning to Afghanistan, Talwasa contributed to various government organizations, including the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, where she conducted policy-oriented research aimed to adapt Afghanistan’s Civil Code to better align with international standards and women’s and children’s rights protection. 

She has published research papers regarding the active participation of Afghan women in public life and the situation of Afghan refugees in Turkey in 2021. Talwasa is currently interested in exploring and writing about ways to increase women’s welfare as an integral part of social welfare policy in Afghanistan.
