A hyper-theatrical mystery comes to the Black Box Studio

The Moors, a recent play by Jen Silverman, directed by Prof. Damon Bonetti, is the first production of the new year for Rutgers–Camden Theater, playing February 9-12 in the intimate Black Box Studio. Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 7:30, with a Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm.

According to Prof. Bonetti, the play “is set in a very Brontë-esque world, and yet it is very much of this exact moment in time. It’s a very funny play with a deeply anguished core as the characters struggle with their identities and their longing to be seen.” He calls it “a hyper-theatrical entertaining mystery.”

Two sisters and a dog live out their lives on the bleak English moors, and dream of love and power. The arrival of a hapless governess and a moor-hen set all three on a strange and dangerous path. The Moors is a dark comedy about love, desperation, and visibility.

Silverman is a much-lauded contemporary playwright, having received the Helen Merrill Award, the Yale Drama Series Award, the Lilly Award, Fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Jen is a 2022 National Endowment for the Arts Fellow (prose) and 2022 Guggenheim Fellow (theatre).

The cast includes Rutgers–Camden students Jennifer Calay, Taylor Eccles, Tia Johnson, Lilli Myers, Jessica Osias, and Ethan Santi.

Seating is limited; tickets can be purchased at the Impact Booth at the Campus Center, at the box office one hour prior to the show, or online through our website: https://vmpa.camden.rutgers.edu/theater-program/production-season/
