The confusion and anxiety caused by this executive order offer a profound opportunity to explore how each of us views our shared national character, and how we embrace the pillars of our American democracy. One of the core tenets of the United States is our commitment to open dialogue and frank discussion when our fundamental beliefs in equality and basic human rights are being challenged.
Rutgers University–Camden is a community that does not shrink from provocative moments. We confront them, together, in a way that deliberately seeks out mutual understanding and common ground for as many people as possible.
To that end, I invite you to join me for a town hall conversation on immigration and unity at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in the Multi-Purpose Room on the main level of the Campus Center.
This conversation will be an opportunity for students to voice their opinions on President Trump’s recent executive order regarding federal immigration practices and policies. There will be differing viewpoints. All are welcome within the guidelines of mutual respectfulness.
