Honors Event: PHILOSOPHY FOR GIRLS (virtual)

When

March 9, 2022
7:30 pm-9:30 pm

Event Type

Could you name ten women philosophers? How about three? Most people cannot. Women have long
been marginalized in the field of philosophy. The book Philosophy for Girls (Oxford University Press,
2020) helps redress the gender imbalance in philosophy by offering a range of essays on perennial yet
timely philosophical questions written exclusively by women philosophers. It is directed towards girls
and young women interested in philosophy and analytical thinking.

Dr. Margaret Betz (Department of Philosophy and Religion and Gender Studies Program) will host an
evening with the editors, Melissa Shew and Kimberly Garchar as well as contributor Shanti Chu. Please
join us for a lively discussion about the role women have played in philosophy; their historical
marginalization; and how Philosophy for Girls centers women and girls in philosophical inquiry.
