Please join the Honors College & John Giannotti, Professor Emeritus, for a Zoom discussion concerning the statue of Walt Whitman that Professor Giannotti created for the Rutgers-Camden campus. As you may be aware, a petition has been circulated calling for the removal of the statue due to certain Whitman writings that are considered racist and demeaning. Our discussion will focus on the those opinions he expressed as a journalist as opposed to his far better known writings as a poet. For a variety of contemporary thoughts regarding Whitman and Racism I urge you to look at the opinions offered in the following articles.  Looking forward to a meaningful discussion!
